Things must have been really alarming in Australia after Big Brother contestant Krystal Forscutt flaunted her huge breasts on screen. Her promotion scheme must have worked wonders in the cosmetic surgery industry, with teens flocking to plastic surgeons for specific procedures.

Needless to say, concerned folks are alarmed. Hence, lawmakers are already honing a bill that would ban teenagers from getting purely cosmetic surgery procedures.

Herald Sun has this to say:

The proposals also follow instances of people as young as 15 going to clinics and requesting "Jessica Simpson" noses, breast implants, liposuction and Botox and collagen injections.

It is proposed teenagers must have a referral from a GP before seeing a plastic surgeon -- and must also have counselling.

Surgeons would require parents' consent and would be forced to offer a one-month cooling-off period before a procedure.

No figures on the number of procedures are kept in Australia, but most Melbourne surgeons report the trend is on the rise.

Regulating the cosmetic surgery industry is the goal of those behind this proposed bill. Aside the from the alarming rise of number of cosmetic procedures performed on teens, health experts also worry about patients put at risk by unqualified general practitioners performing cosmetic surgery on increasingly younger women and girls.

More like hitting two birds with one stone, this is exactly what this bill is going to accomplish. And this is absolutely a great move since through this more regulated way of doing things; the patient’s welfare is given utmost importance. This also makes sure that all operations to be performed really serve a purpose, and not just for vanity.
