Difficult rhinoplasties

People who are not satisfied with the way their nose looks opt for a rhinoplasty procedure, also known as a nose job. Though rhinoplasty is quite a challenging procedure, skilled doctors can perform the procedure as smoothly as can be and deliver great results for their patients.

However, there are some cases when a rhinoplasty procedure becomes extremely difficult for most surgeons.

According to Dr. Craig Vander kolk of the Mercy Medical Center, people who have had a previous injury or those who suffered a broken nose, would be difficult to operate on.

Difficult rhinoplasties are usually done on patients with a previous injury, cancer, birth defect or previous rhinoplasty that didn't produce favorable results. Vander kolk said that more often than not, patients with those problems usually want to improve the function or the appearance of the nose and this means that a more invasive procedure is required.

When doing a difficult rhinoplasty, the surgeon operates on the nose by making a small incision under it and lift it up to see the components. He then analyzes what he see and comes up with a plan to correct it. In the case of the patient with the broken nose, the plan meant taking a tiny piece of cartilage from behind the patients ear to use in her nose.

    Difficult Noses Need the Best

If you believe your nose surgery might be more difficult than most, one suggestion is to find a board certified plastic surgeon who has additional credentials in facial surgery. If a San Diego rhinoplasty would work for you, consider seeing Dr. Richard Chaffoo. He has American Board of Plastic Surgery certification, and additional certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

I doubt Dr. Chaffoo has met a nose he can't fix.

    A Nose Job... It's Work

I had a "nose job," that didn't turn out as I had hoped. I did more research and discovered there's a procedure known as "revision rhinoplasty" (basically, fixing a bad nose job). In my research, I found this doctor who performs Long Island plastic surgery, including rhinoplasty. I'm on the other side of the country, unfortunately, but I found his page very informative because he describes why people like me might want nose surgery, what to expect (from the consultation through recovery... YES, he discusses recovery!), the different procedures, results. If you're thinking about nose surgery, do you research, because like the post above says, it's work. Good luck!
