You might think that Helen Mirren was aching to get the best makeover in the world to prepare herself for the Oscars, knowing fully well that she has the Best Actress award already in the bag. Well, here’s news for you folks. ‘Queen Elizabeth’ turned down free plastic surgery makeover and settled for a simple make-up as she headed for the Oscar Awards 2007.

Irish Examiner has more to say on this.

Helen Mirren refused to accept free plastic surgery and Botox injections ahead of the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

The 61-year-old, winner of Best Actress for her performance as British monarch Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, received a free pre-Oscars goodie bag containing vouchers for free facial treatments.

But Mirren preferred to attend the event covering her wrinkles with the aid of make-up alone.

A classy woman like Helen does not need plastic surgery to be dashing and attractive. She adds: "I'm very vain, which initially made playing Elizabeth Windsor in all those tweeds pretty daunting. But I'm not fond of all those needles and scalpels. I'll try to get away with make-up, jewellery and a nice frock."

There you have it guys. Our Oscar 2007 Best Actress, trying to make things simple and still looking very sophisticated. Younger celebrities have a lot learn from Helen Mirren on this aspect.

  • There's a reason they say, you get what you pay for

I've had some work done - laser treatments to reduce the appearance of broken blood vessels on/around my nose and cheeks - and I saved up to make sure that I could see a board certified dermatologist, even though procedure I was electing was pretty straight-forward. Of course, if you're considering a cosmetic surgical procedure or even a minimally invasive treatment, it's likely to cost you much more than my little, 15-minute laser treatment. Still, you shouldn't go with the doctor who offers the lowest price. I highly recommend finding a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist. I work in this industry, researching/writing for three doctors who perform plastic surgery Atlanta (yes, all three are board cert.). In my opinion, it's worth it. Besides, it's not like every procedure has to be paid for up-front w/cash. Today, many doctors (and many companies) offer financing. Also, some insurance companies are willing to pay for procedures such as breast reduction. Research the procedure you're interested in. Research your surgeon. Research your options.

    Younger Celebs?

Younger celebs aren't the only ones who have a lot to learn from Ms. Mirren. I would urge each and every man and woman considering plastic surgery keep in mind that "free" plastic surgery is rarely free and many innocent people pay much more than they ever hoped for when they put their body into the hands of a surgeon who has to give their services away. Don't do it. Learn all you can about the procedure you're interested in (cost, how it's performed, risks and complications, recovery) and learn all you can about the doctor performing it (education, certification, experience in general, experience specific to the procedure you're interested in). And if you're considering Cosmetic surgery in New York (or even if you're considering a procedure in another city), this site has a lot of useful information; take advantage of it, because it doesn't cost a thing to look (the good kind of "free").

    Helen is extraordinary

She doesn't need plastic surgery! She is by herself a magnificent beauty.
