Jamie Lee Curtis Says Plastic Surgery Is A Fraud

Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis has advised all women to think twice or many times before getting plastic surgery. Curtis thinks that that plastic surgery is based on the 'fraud' that a nip here and a tuck there will make anyone feel better about himself.

Well, plastic surgery's goal is sort of like that and more. However, the stunning 49-year-old actress thinks otherwise. She told the press about her past surgery on the lower eyes when she was still 35. She said that she underwent surgery after a certain cameraman made a comment about her too 'puffy' eyes. She admitted that she had plastic surgery done ever since.

However, Curtis feels she is now credible enough to campaign against plastic surgery. She is now urging women to grow old gracefully and stay away from cosmetic surgery makeovers. She adds that it is rare that people actually feel better about themselves after they went under the knife.

She tells Oprah, "I did it all but, you know what, it didn't work. The fraud is it doesn't work; it doesn't work because there are complications, and I got them all. "It doesn't work because you still look in the mirror and you see the fraud of what you were trying to do."

I think it is just a case-to-case basis. Plastic surgery did not work for her, but there are lots of women who swear by plastic surgery. Besides, there are already non-invasive options that you yourself can try and see if it suits you. So, really, Jamie might have had it really bad, but it doesn't mean that everyone has to have bad results too.

...no one cares what Jamie Lee Curtis thinks. When did she become a knowledgeable person rightfully influencing public policy on this issue? I work with a Saratoga Springs breast enlargement surgeon who I can honestly say is one of the most stand-up guys you will ever meet. And I'm not the only one saying that - his patients say the same thing. Plastic surgeons on the whole (always exceptions of course) aren't out to defraud anyone. They are people who care about the wellbeing of their patients and perform procedures that help improve self image and enhance self esteem. Jamie Lee Curtis should stick with whatever it is she does these days rather than making statements defaming a whole specialty of the medical profession.

    facs vs. opinion

i agree (not w/jamie, but rather with the comment, 'wrongful'). i work in ny with a board certified plastic surgeon specializing in Long Island breast enlargement surgery, and i've interviewed patients whose only concern with plastic surgery was why they waited so long. there was a study conducted by the university of florida that was released in 2007 in plastic surgical nursing that found women within the study group experienced increases in sexual arousal, desire and satisfaction following breast enlargement. these women also saw improvements in self-esteem. now, that's just one study, but jamie's is just one person's opinion.

    Wrongful or criminal deception...

... intended to result in financial or personal gain. That's how the dictionary on my computer defines "fraud.' And, that's how Jamie describes plastic surgery? Okay, first off, I'm one of those people in this country (the U.S.) who believes that everyone is not only entitled to their opinion, but has the first amendment right to express it. Next, I should say that I work in plastic surgery-not as a doctor, but with several surgeons across the country, including three Atlanta plastic surgeons. Okay, back to Jamie's comments. "Women should think twice before getting plastic surgery." Absolutely. Anyone considering surgery, even when it's elective, should seriously think not only about why they're considering plastic surgery (why it'll maybe make them happy), but also who they're doing it for. It shouldn't be for a co-worker (in Jamie's case, cameraman) who criticized some aspect of your look. It should only be to satisfy yourself. I have a lot of respect for Jamie, but this seems to be a case of, 'do as I say, not as I do.' Millions of procedures are performed every year in this country, and plastic surgery is becoming more mainstream everyday. Almost everyone knows someone - a friend, family member or co-worker - who has had "work done." If that friend, family member or co-worker had such a horrible experience w/plastic surgery, wouldn't ps be declining in this country, rather than becoming more and more acceptable?
