Standing liposuction
Thursday June 29, 2006 in: Liposuction Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: liposuction The field of plastic surgery has been mulling on this idea, as this is not-so-recent development really. But the curious among us could have missed the news about one quite unusual plastic surgery technique – as practically majority, if not all surgical procedures require some semblance of a bed. This time a patient may be asked to stand up and deliver…excess fat, that is. With liposuction, being awake during an operation is nothing new, but to be awake and standing up while being suctioned is another thing.

Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: plastic surgery The field of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery has come a long way -- but has it gone too far? In the mold of reality TV, this HBO documentary pokes some more disquieting questions. The synopsis reads:

Let it be
Thursday June 22, 2006 in: Hair Restoration Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: hair loss, baldness, hair restoration Hair is composed of proteins, primarily keratin, which grows from a sac called the follicle. Keratin and various other proteins are generated by cells in the hair follicle and forms part of the hair shaft. Sulfur atoms are common in various proteins and when two of these sulfur atoms pair up and bond, they form a disulfide bond. The number of disulfide bonds between hair proteins found in the hair shaft, makes it curly or straight. Hence, the greater the number of bonds, the curlier the hair, and the fewer the number of bonds, the straighter the hair.

The price of fame
Thursday June 22, 2006 in: Liposuction Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: liposuction, tummy tuck The presence of cosmetic surgery has been very glaring. It is all over the news. Celebrities and regular folks flaunt their looks and they are very open about having some surgery fixes here and there. This was not the case some time ago. And this truly is a very nice development. However, certain instances happen that somehow doesn’t really give something good to the cosmetic surgery industry. Take LL Cool J’s case for instance. Because of his amazing six packs, people think that he has undergone a tummy tuck or liposuction to sculpt those abs. And LL vehemently denies these allegations.

Nipples and Gynecomastia
Wednesday June 21, 2006 in: Breast Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: gynecomastia Why do men have nipples? It might sound like a very awkward question, but some men might have actually wondered why they have nipples. Fortunately there are people such as Dr. Michael Bermant who actually provides an answer to such a query.
The nipples provide a focus point for the male chest. They direct the eye to the curve of the pectoral muscle. Men and women are mammals (from the Latin mamma breast) a species that have breasts and feeds its young with milk. The human embryo has tissue that will evolve into breasts. Both male and female babies are born with nipples and ducts intact. It is the presence of genes that direct hormones to differentiate the breast tissue. The Y chromosome stimulates hormones such as testosterone to form male features.

Stop the Tease; Hear the Praise
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Ear Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: ear surgery The teasing and the nasty looks must stop. Fortunately, the problem of exceptionally large ears or those that stick out can be corrected through corrective surgery, called otoplasty. Now more importantly one can gain an improved appearance and more self-confidence. One would know that the ears have reached full size when he or she is five or six years old. It is when odd-looking ears are ready for corrective ear surgery. One can opt to have his or her surgery at any age but having the surgery at a young age has two advantages: the cartilage is more pliable, making it easier to reshape, and the child will experience the psychological benefits of the cosmetic improvement.

Hair Restoration
Sunday June 18, 2006 in:
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: hair restoration, baldness There’s nothing wrong with being bald, but it is a fact that baldness could become some sort of an obstacle in someone’s career, as it had become in the career of Jim Abath, a sports reporter and anchor featured in this Boca Raton News article. Working in such an image-intensive business environment such as the TV arena has presented Abath quite a few problems. He got turned down for jobs, among other things. But that changed when he decided to undergo hair restoration surgery. He professes that getting a hair transplant was one of the best decisions he ever made.

Cosmetic Surgery Financing
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Cosmetic Surgery Costs
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: cosmetic surgery financing, cosmetic surgery cost Cosmetic surgery is not exactly the cheapest of medical procedures. A nose job, for example, could cost anywhere between $4,000 to $12,000. Meanwhile, those who are thinking about getting a facelift could also be set back by some $5,000 or more. That may be chicken feed to celebrities who undergo cosmetic surgery as often as they change their socks (Michael Jackson, anyone?). However, most everyone still needs to resort to saving up, maxing out their credit cards, or entering into a deal with a financing company just to get some cosmetic surgical job done.

Breast Reduction Surgery
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Breast Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: breast reduction surgery What do Hollywood superstar Drew Barrymore and Soleil Moon Frye of the 80’s sitcom Punky Brewster have in common? Well, aside from the fact that they both started out their showbiz careers as really cute kids, they both have undergone breast reduction surgery. I personally would have preferred that they hadn’t. After all, ample natural bosoms on two absolutely gorgeous women won’t hurt, would it?

Facelift and Aging
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Facelift Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: facelift surgery, facelift, plastic surgery Old age brings a lot of annoying things to a person’s life. Wrinkles, jowls, memory loss, and osteoporosis are just some of the unwelcome visitors that suddenly just begin to occupy and disturb our peaceful existence. For beauty conscious individuals like most women, wrinkles are the most annoying and dreaded aftermath of aging. Imagine seeing yourself beginning to look like a shar pei. That must have been a very scary scene. And that’s exactly why women are terrified about getting old.

Fit for eyelid surgery?
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Eyelid Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: eyelid surgery You must have hated them ever since they emerged. They look nasty. They are pretty annoying. And much worse, they make you look old. Do you want to know what they are? Yes, they are those huge eye bags hanging around your almost beautiful eyes. Too bad they steal away your youthful beauty and project an old image instead. Puffy and hooded eyes can really ruin your day. Who would ever want to look older than your age? As far as general fact is concerned, all of us want to look as young and as ravishing as we can be. But as long as these puffy eyes are around, the ravishing look would never show up.

Getting rid of aging signs
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Brow Lift Surgery
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: brow lift, wrinkles Lines near the eyes and mouth are not the only signs of aging. The most obvious lines are those that are found in the forehead, and they sure do look prominent. Okay, there are people who still look good despite the presence of lines along their foreheads. Take Robert Redford or Clint Eastwood, for instance. But sincerely, deep inside us, we know that without those wrinkles up there, these guys would look better. And so can everyone else.

What’s new with breast implants?
Sunday June 18, 2006 in: Breast Implants
Tag(s):
Technorati Tags: breast implants, breast augmentation Something new has been discovered about breast implants. And this one has nothing to do with further destroying their image. In fact, this finding contradicts certain government studies linking breast implants with cancer, lung diseases and suicide. A news article from Fashion Toronto Monitor talks about the report of a new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. The study negates the other previous studies conducted concerning breast implants.
