Liposonix – a new non-invasive liposuction procedure

  Liposuction surgery has another addition to its line of modern techniques. A new non-invasive procedure called Liposonix is set to be released some time this year.

  Liposonix was developed by a private company based in Seattle. The procedure helps target specific pockets of fat, thereby producing results similar to that of a non-invasive weight loss. This is considered to be the most advanced technique among all body sculpting techniques available to date.

  A few notes from the Liposonix website:

  LipoSonix achieves targeted reduction of tissue volume by precisely focusing high intensity ultrasound energy to cause thermocoagulation of adipose tissue. A custom designed ultrasound transducer delivers energy across the skin surface at a relatively low intensity, but brings this energy to a sharp focus in the subcutaneous fat.

  At the skin surface, the intensity of the ultrasound energy is low enough so that no damage occurs. The focusing of the ultrasound beam at specific depths beneath the epidermis, combined with proprietary application techniques, results in adipose tissue thermocoagulation. This result is achieved through several mechanisms of action, including temperature rise secondary to direct absorption of ultrasonic energy and mechanical processes such as cavitation, streaming, and shear forces with their inherent thermal effects.

  The procedure promises so much so it is likely that patients would flock to their plastic surgeon’s offices asking for this type of technique. Liposonix’s non-invasive nature would surely thrill surgeons and patients as this new technology doesn’t require incisions, has no downtime, and costs less than the traditional liposuction surgery.

Reserving Judgment

I think the technology still has a way to go to make non-invasive body contouring treatments as effective as traditional liposuction or ultrasonic liposuction in Philadelphia, not to mention the new minimally-invasive lipolysis treatments like Smartlipo. The breakthrough in accessing fat cells with laser or sound or whatever has just not been able to match the results of traditional lipo, which physically removes the cells. But I look forward to seeing how the science of body contouring continues to advance.
