Nip/Tuck to end after season 6

    The controversial Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning medical series, Nip/Tuck, is about to let the curtains fall after the drama series’ sixth season, which will end by early 2011.

    The plastic surgery TV series was created by Ryan Murphy for FX Networks. The show follows the lives of two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara played by Dylan Walsh and Christian Troy played by Julian McMahon. During the first four seasons, the show was set in Miami, but then moved to L.A.

    Nip/Tuck showcased medical cases that are 100 percent based on fact. Among these real-life cases are “Escobar Gallardo”, which was aired on Episode 1.13, “Mrs. Grubman”, aired on Episode 2.4, and “Rose and Raven Rosenberg” which was aired on Episode 2.9.

    The show proved to be one controversial series because of its depiction of sex and other issues considered taboo by the general public. For instance, Parents Television Council has criticized the show for a particular scene involving a foursome. Not only that, a scene with a funeral home worker removing and assembling body parts also received criticism from PTC because of its indecent nature.

    Despite all these controversies, the show still received quite a remarkable following from the American audience.

    Cable channel FX, which airs the show, has made the announcement that the show is going to end after its sixth season last Tuesday. FX president/GM John Landgraf spoke during the network's presentation at the Television Critics Assn., and said that running the show longer would diminish the quality of the show.

    I've watched this show on and off through its run. Overall I found this show interesting buy bizarre. I never understood why the show became show popular had a pretty weak plot It is good to see they are finally bringing this show to an end. I'm sure my plastic surgery dr will be happy to hear the show is ending

    Of course this was just a TV show, and by Tv shows' very nature it is disconnected from reality. I think the shock value the show went for from the start is what got it viewers, however there are only so many shocking story lines that can be conceived in a cosmetic surgery.

    As a Board Certified plastic surgeon, I agree that this show should have ended long ago. I unfortunately see patients in my office, as well as those in the general public, who assume that plastic surgery and plastic surgeons are similar to those seen on these fictitious shows. It's an unfortunate circumstance that exploitation of our specialty takes the place of good education... which we as surgeons need to do a better job of providing!

    I have to say good riddance to this one. I work in the plastic surgery business on a national level - everything from a plastic surgeon in Hawaii to a Saratoga Springs cosmetic surgery practice - and this show has just become increasingly disconnected from the reality of the plastic surgery experience for most people. Or really, any people who aren't characters in a soap opera. I think this show ran off the rails by season 2, and the rest has just been shameless titillation and exploration of homo/hetero male relationships that was just way too surfacey and trite. I hope another show does a better job of capturing the experience, there's still a lot of interesting things about people who want to change their appearance and change their lives.
