Star Jones Reynolds finally admits to having gastric bypass surgery. Before, when Star Jones was asked questions about her dramatic weight loss for years, she said that she had undergone a medical intervention. That intervention turned out to be a gastric bypass surgery.

Reynolds said she had gastric bypass in August 2003. Since then she dropped 160 pounds in three years.

In her first-person essay in the September issue of Glamour magazine, Star Jones has this to say:

"Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing - talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done," she writes. "I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor."

"But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me," she continues. "I was afraid to be vulnerable, and ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure."

Reynolds underwent a tough time around her 40th birthday in 2002. She was lonely then and turned to food for comfort. As a result, she gained 75 pounds over the course of 17 months.

Star Jones made the decision to undergo gastric bypass after a friend showed concern about her weight. It was a success, indeed. Star Jones lost a lot of weight. Also, her experience helped her realize that she couldn’t control what others thought and she began to heal by talking openly about her weight loss to others.

  • Half the World: Who cares? The Other Half of the World…

Who's Star Jones? Okay, seriously, I'm happy for Star. I'm unhappy, though, that it took her years to "finally admit" that she had gastric bypass surgery. Here in Atlanta, plastic surgery, as is the case in most of America nowadays, is more acceptable than ever (I should know; although I'm not a doctor, I work in the beauty business). Besides, come on, we're not talking about just enhancing ones look here; we're talking about improving and maybe even extending ones life! Star mentions in the quote from her Glamour essay that she was "ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure." Although surgery may be the last resort for many people, in my personal opinion, it's still taking control. Take cigarettes for example. Some people can quit cold turkey, while others need a nicotine patch or gum. So what? The important thing is they're taking control and improving their lives.

So did she have plastic surgery?

Does anyone know whether Star Jones had plastic surgery? She's looking pretty good these days, not like she has extra skin hanging around. As far as I'm concerned, if a celebrity has a gastric bypass like she did, it's a pretty good bet they had post bariatric plastic surgery to remove the excess skin.

    Just wondering.

    This could be useful.

We all know a lot of people want to loss weight faster. So they wan to undergo some surgery called Gastric Bypass Surgery. Well I want to share this site that has a lot of information about the said issue:

It's a report done by Julianne Kennedy.

    Gastric Bypass Denies Relationship

Seriously, I don't know what the big deal is. She lost 160 pounds! That's big news! I work in the plastic surgery industry (right now with an Orange County plastic surgeon), so I read A LOT about gastric bypass and post-bariatric plastic surgeries... anyway, I read one article about a study recently conducted that found something like over 60% are overweight! This is a serious problem for our country, as many serious medical conditions are associated with obesity. So, yes, I agree that people should share with others their experiences with successful weight-loss, whether that be through gastric bypass or diet and excercise. And, although I'm certainly no fan of Star's, in this instance I applaud her.
