The price of fame

The presence of cosmetic surgery has been very glaring. It is all over the news. Celebrities and regular folks flaunt their looks and they are very open about having some surgery fixes here and there. This was not the case some time ago. And this truly is a very nice development.

However, certain instances happen that somehow doesn’t really give something good to the cosmetic surgery industry. Take LL Cool J’s case for instance. Because of his amazing six packs, people think that he has undergone a tummy tuck or liposuction to sculpt those abs. And LL vehemently denies these allegations.

This is where cosmetic surgery is placed in a not-so-favorable situation. LL Cool J’s words alone already send waves of negative connotations to the industry.

It speaks more about the people who are making comments than it does about me. It tells me that they cheat and they’re cheaters. They are not willing to make the sacrifices necessary, and go through the pain necessary, in order to get in the best shape they can possibly be. So they don’t believe I would be willing to do it either. So it is really more about their weakness, and less about mine. It doesn’t make me feel anything other than that it is unfortunate that people are weak like that. They are weak. It points out their flaws.

Definitely, he has all the right to be pissed off with those issues thrown at him especially if he really worked hard to attain such form. There is absolutely no problem with that. The problem is that, LL implicitly stressed that those who choose plastic surgery are cheaters, weak, and flawed.

Cosmetic surgery’s fame also brings some bad news. And this is one example of it. Not that this can destroy its status and image. However, this can bring in a kind of mindset that is completely unnecessary, and unhelpful to cosmetic surgery as a whole.

  • "Six Pack Surgery"

Honestly, I could see why LL would be upset. I grew up in the '80s, and I always remember him as being someone who was physically fit. So, to accuse him of not achieving his look through hard work is sort of insulting and surely shows a lack of knowledge about his history. With that said, obviously, some people will never sculpt LL-type of abs, even if they eat right and exercise regularly. So much has to do with genetics. Now, I work with a doctor performing Long Beach plastic surgery, so I know that liposuction or a tummy tuck can help people contour their bodies. With that said, one still much be healthy and one must continue to live a healthy lifestyle after surgery. So, LL's sort of right. Pocket of fat can be eliminated, but you've still got to practice a healthy lifestyle. Oh, and there's something going around now called "six pack surgery" (abdominal etching)... I'm not a doctor, but I'd advise against it.
