There is a new cosmetic surgery procedure in town designed for women who desire long and beautiful eyelashes. Women have always been depending on mascara and glued extensions to have long eyelashes. But now, that, is about to change. A procedure called eyelash transplant surgery promises to give women natural eyelashes which actually grow with their owner.

The transplanted eyelashes are formed from live human hair taken from the patient's head and then inserted into the patient's eyelids, to provide the long, sweeping lashes that previously would be achieved by using mascara or adhesive eyelash extensions. Because they are made from live human hair, the lashes continue growing after transplantation.

"Longer, thicker lashes are an ubiquitous sign of beauty. Eyelash transplantation does for the eyes what breast augmentation does for the figure," according to Dr Alan Bauman, a surgeon who specialises in the eyelash transplants. "This is a brand new procedure for the general public (and) it is going to explode."

Eyelash transplant surgery costs $3,000 per eye and employs about 40 hair follicles taken from the patient's scalp. Local anesthesia and sedation is used, making the procedure less risky compared to those which use general anesthesia.

Brighten Your Eyes, Lengthen Your Lashes

I agree with the earlier comment on this. People will definitely notice if you have more defined, healthy-looking lashes, but the first thing they're going to notice is how bright your eyes look. I work with a Columbia, Maryland plastic surgery practice that offers eyelid surgery, and I've seen remarkable transformations for women and men choosing this procedure. I don't know what these eyelash transplant procedures cost, but I would bet that dollar for dollar, women are going to see more cosmetic benefit from the eyelid surgery procedure, which can take 5-10 years off your look.

I'm all for safe, effective cosmetic procedures that help a person look their best. The eyes are such a crucial area and they say so much about a person. I would bet that these lash extensions can really highlight your eyes, but I'd also bet that their effect is diminished if the skin around your eyes isn't looking its best. For Sonoma and Marin County eyelid surgery patients, it only makes sense to remove bags and droopiness before enhancing your lashes. While doing so much to rejuvenate your eyes may get expensive, it's an investment in yourself that's well worth it.
